2007 Data - Notes ----------------- Storm damage and Power Supply failure meant that no weather data was recorded for 1/1/07 - 25/6/07 Since then data has been mostly OK - with only a few erros and glitches. So any use of data should always apply a quality control check. A simple webcam was installed in November. this takes one photo daily, and downloads to the internes (when the communications link is OK). Communications link has been generally good - based upon GSM phone technology - the reception is marginal and signal drops out periodically. However no aws data should be lost as it is stored at the aws and downloaded when next sucessful communication takes place. Archive of Notes from AWS log on webpage ---------------------------------------- 22/12/07 Switch on AWS replaced - hopefully that will sort the problem. Seems OK at the moment. All heaters, fans and instruments OK - plan to order spare motor next yearust in case! Camera tested OK, lens covered in rime ice due to open AWS - rebooted PC and hopefully webacm will be working again. Cold and cloudy on summit today, patches of hard frozen snow. 19/12/07 AWS reported stuck open - plan trip on Saturday. All this week there has been a temperature inversion - so despite 'fault' flag the data is OK. 17/12/07 Camera - image might not be new, download from summit is OK, but I'm not convinced that it's taken a new picture! Will chack camera and connections on next visit 16/12/07 Switch fault reported on AWS - seems to be operating OK, but will try remote shutdown on Monday, to prevent any damage if the backup switch were to fail. Hope to make a visit to the AWS in next week or so. 12/11/07 Camera now automatically updatng. New image is posted at 0945 daily (assuming comms works). 1/11/07 Starting testing of a summit camera. This was installed last weekend and software development continues to eventually (!) bring automatically updated images (daily). 22/10/07 PC network at HWU back online - all AWS data uploaded (no gaps in data) - should be refreshing automatically again. 18/10/07 Planned PC networking maintainance this weekend - AWS may not update this weekend. Should be back to normal next week. 1/8/07 Glitch reported below seems to have dissapeared (!) - all data seem OK. 16/7/07 Thermometers are showing an error - T1 appears to be reading high in low winds, suggesting a fan failure. Will replace on next visit. T2 seems OK. 25/6/07 A wet day on the hill with temperatures of ~4C on the summit, which was stuck in a cloud - didn't feel much like June! Power supply has been repaired and AWS is online again. Anemometer also replaced so we again have full compliment of instruments present. 26/3/07 Lovely sunny day on the plateau - though windy! SIM card replaced and comms with logger/memory is now OK again. However while it was offline there was an electrical failure in the control equipment - these have been removed for repair. Untill replaced the graphs + text data will not update (the archive data is updating, though with aws shut during measurements its a bit meaningless). Timescale for repair not known at present. 22/3/07 Have new data enabled SIM. Plan to visit AWS soon to replace SIM and check to see if everything else is still working! 7/3/07 Failure in data comms - likley to be a GSM sim card problem. In contact with service provider. 26/2/07 Communication problem due to damaged cable - now fixed. Both thermometers should be OK, both have working fans and should give accurate air temperature. Temperature graphs also so the weekly average expected for this time of year (derived from out data archive). Windspeed/direction unavailable due to storm damage - some work needed to repair instruments and supporting fixings - ignore any automated status of anemometer/wind vane. 1/1/07 AWS has suffered some damage due to high winds - and is currently offline. There is also a communications issue - modem on cairngorm is OK but not talking to controller - will investigate on my next visit (soon I hope....)
